Kerala Startup Mission to host Global Hackathon series on July 28-29

AngelHack, the world's largest hackathon organisers, will conduct the Global Hackathon series in the Kerala Startup Mission at Kinfra Hi-Tech Park in Kalamassery on July 28 and 29.

The challenge for this round of the hackathon is to address problems that prevent female entrepreneurship, with its focus on health, safety, economic empowerment and culture. The winning team will enter AngelHack's exclusive and remote accelerator programme, HACKcelerator, to be held in the US in September.

The hackathon is being organised with the aim of building technology that solves social or environmental problems and which can positively impact the local community.

Railways to launch ‘Mission Satyanishtha’

All the 13 lakh employees of the Indian Railways will take turns to swear an oath publicly to “bring about integrity” and “eradicate corruption” – beginning with the top brass and carrying on to the lowest levels in the organistion throughout the year

SoftBank partners with Paytm

SoftBank Group Corp will launch a digital payments service in Japan and has partnered.

The service PayPay will be launched by SoftBank's joint venture PayPay Corporation (with Yahoo Japan) in fall this year

  • PayPay Corporation will team up with India's largest digital payments company Paytm, a SoftBank Vision Fund portfolio company, to utilise Paytm's technology and expertise in mobile payments.
  • In Japan, cash is still the mainstream payment methodology, with the current cashless payment ratio remaining at 20 per cent, SoftBank said adding that the Japanese government is taking measures to raise the cashless payment ratio to 40 per cent by 2025.

    India secures top position in archery

    Creating history, India jumped to the top rank of the compound archery women team category.

    The team, which comprises of V. Jyothi Surekha, Trisha Deb, P. Lily Chanu, Muskan Kirar, Divya Dhayal, and Madhumita, reached the top spot with 342.6 points leading Chinese Taipei team by six points.

    World Hepatitis Day

    • World Hepatitis Day takes place every year on 28 July, with the aim of bringing the world together in order to raise awareness of viral hepatitis.
    • The theme for World Hepatitis Day 2018 is “Eliminate Hepatitis”.
    • Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver caused by blood borne Hepatitis Virus.
    • There are 5 main hepatitis viruses, referred to as types A, B, C, D and E.
    • The most common modes of infection are through exposure to contaminated blood or blood products and invasive medical procedures using contaminated equipments.
    • It can also be transmitted sexually and be passed from an infected mother to her baby.
    • Viral hepatitis B and C are root causes of liver cancer, leading to 1.34 million deaths every year.
    • Currently, there is no vaccine for hepatitis C; except Hepatitis C, all other hepatitis viruses have safe and effective vaccination to prevent them.
    • Hepatitis B is included in India‘s Universal Immunisation Programme (UIP).
    • According to the WHO's Global Strategy of Viral Hepatitis, the goal to eliminate Hepatitis B and C should be achieved by 2030.
