Union Cabinet approves proposal for enactment of Dam Safety Bill, 2018

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 13, 2018 approved the proposal for introduction of Dam Safety Bill, 2018 in the Parliament.

The draft bill has been finalised after wide consultation with leading Indian experts and international experts. It will enable all states and union territories of India to adopt uniform dam safety procedures that will not only ensure the safety of the dams but will also safeguard their benefits.

I&B Minister Inaugurates EU Film Festival in New Delhi

Information and Broadcasting Minister Col Rajyavardhan Rathore inaugurated the European Union Film Festival at Siri Fort Auditorium in New Delhi. The festival will improve cultural ties between India and European countries.

24 latest European movies from 23 European countries will be screened. The festival is organized by Directorate of Film Festivals under Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Cabinet approves 'Three Year Action Plan’ of Agricultural Education Division & ICAR Institutes

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the continuation of the Three Year Action Plan (2017-2020) of Agricultural Education Division and ICAR Institutes with an outlay of Rs 2225.46 crore for strengthening and developing higher agricultural education in India.

  • The action plan comprises several new initiatives including steps to attract talented students, reducing academic inbreeding and addressing faculty shortage.
  • The plan would also provide support for strengthening and modernisation of infrastructure related to students and faculty amenities and capacity building of both faculty and students in cutting-edge areas through Niche Area of Excellence programme, which will improve teaching and encourage holistic development of the students.
  • On the other hand, ICAR-NAARM will cater to the capacity building needs of the human resources and stakeholders of the entire National Agricultural Research & Education System (NARES), leading to enhancing of competencies and capacities of the stakeholders including farmers, young scientists and students.
  • The uniformity will also help in protecting human life, livestock and property.

    Tourism Ministry launches new Incredible India website

    The Minister of State (I/C) for Tourism KJ Alphons launched the new ‘Incredible India’ website in New Delhi.

    The interactive website will showcase India as a holistic destination, revolving around major experiences such as spirituality, heritage, adventure, culture, yoga and wellness. It is designed using trends and technologies of international standards, in order to project India as a ‘must-visit’ destination, especially among its overseas travelers.

    Key Points.

    • User-Friendly Design: The website is aesthetically designed to enable easy dissemination of a large amount of information.
    • Advanced Personalisation: The website leverages the power of Adobe Experience Cloud to identify different user personas and offer a personalised experience.
  • The website was developed by Tech Mahindra and powered by NIC Cloud. The other stakeholders involved in its development include Google and Adobe.
  • 20 states sign MoU to implement Ayushman Bharat - National Health Protection Mission

    The Union Health Minister, J P Nadda exchanged Memorandum of Understanding with health ministers from 20 states, marking their commitment towards the launch of the Ayushman Bharat – National Health Protection Mission (AB-NHPM) at a Health Ministers conclave in New Delhi.

    • The AB-NHPM will protect around 50 crore people from about 10 crore families.
    • The scheme will enable cashless and paperless access to services up to Rs 5 lakhs per family per year.
    • The services will be available for the beneficiary families at the point of service in both public and private empanelled hospitals across India.

    PM Modi inaugurates Integrated Command and Control Centre of Naya Raipur Smart City

    Prime Minster Narendra Modi inaugurated the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) of the Naya Raipur Smart City.

    With this, the Integrated Command & Control Centre of Naya Raipur now becomes the 10th Smart City Centre to be operational in India.

    • Naya Raipur is one of the 3 Smart Cities of Chhattisgarh selected under the Smart Cities Mission, the other two cities are Raipur and Bilaspur.
    • Naya Raipur is being envisioned as a service hub across multiple sectors including Information Technology, Bio Technology, Finance, Trade, Hospitality, Medical and Education.
    • Naya Raipur is also India’s first Smart greenfield city and is also digitally accessible first smart city in the country.
    • Naya Raipur has selected IL&FS Ltd in partnership with Schneider Electric as the Master System Integrator (MSI) through a competitive bidding process to design, develop, implement, operate and maintain:

    World Bank Approves $700 mn to Improve Primary Education in Bangladesh

    The World Bank has approved $700 million to help Bangladesh achieve its education for all vision by improving the primary education sector.

    The Quality Learning for All Program (QLEAP) will cover more than 18 million children studying in pre-primary level to grade 5. It will also finance implementation of the government's Fourth Primary Education Development Program (PEDP4).

    End of 27 year old dispute between Greece and Macedonia

    The 27-year-long dispute between Greece and Macedonia, two countries of Europe, has ended. The dispute between the two countries was about the name of Yugoslavia.

    Important point

    • In 1991, separated from Yugoslavia, the new country was made of the Republic of Macedonia.
    • Located in the south, parts of Greece are also known as Macedonia. There was a dispute between the two countries on this.
    • Both countries have agreed that Macedonia will now be known as the 'Republic of North Macedonia'. In the Macedonian language it will be called 'Severna Macedonia'.
    • Prior to the official announcement of the new name, the approval of the people of Macedonia and the Parliament of Greece must be obtained.
    • The northern region of Greece is also known as Macedonia. Alexander the Great lived in this region. This was the reason Greece's citizens were annoyed with this name.
    • It has also been clarified in the agreement that Northern Macedonia will not be regarded as belonging to the Old Greek Civilization.

    Dudhwa National Park

    • Dudhwa National Park is located in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh state. This National Park is a Tiger Reserve area.
    • It was established in the year 1977 by preserving the 614 sq km forest area.  
    • Located in the foothills of the Shivalik mountain range, this garden has special significance in terms of tourism in the state. 
    • Dudhwa National Park is surrounded by dense forests. 
    • The park is a huge forest area adjacent to India and Nepal border.
    • This park is the largest and rich biodiversity area of ​​Uttar Pradesh. The park is prominent in the world for the protection of tigers and fencing. 
    • The herds of deer can be seen in the garden area. Five species of deer are found in Dudhwa National Park. The reindeer is main.
